Directories - Book Indexes to download

Please read these instructions first - before downloading the index for your CD book

You do not need to own a copy of the CD Book in order to download one of the indexes. You may download them and view them without charge.
BUT: these indexes are the copyright of Archive CD Books, and you may not copy them, reproduce them or incorporate them in other publications in any other form, or reproduce them in any way without written permission. (Contact Rod Neep by email: admin@archivecdbooks.org)

The indexes have been painstakingly created by a large team of volunteers for the Archive CD Books Project. Credit should go to those volunteers for the work involved, as without their considerable efforts, they would not be available.

Note: the instructions on your CD for downloading and installing the indexes may be different from those stated here. The process has been simplified considerably. This web page gives the latest up-to-date instructions.

It was originally envisaged that the indexes would link with the actual CD pages, but this is no longer the case. Most of our new CDs do not require indexes, as they are in searchable PDF format, and therefore a much simpler system of supplying indexes has been created for those older CDs.

The indexes may be viewed here on line, and if you wish, you may save the page to your own hard disk for future reference.

Saving the index files

Create a new folder on your hard disk using Windows Explorer in drive C: (or any other drive) called \cdbooks, e.g.
c:\cdbooks

Create a new folder in that folder for the reference number of the CD, e.g.
c:\cdbooks\0008
.
Note that CD reference numbers have been changed for many earlier produced CDs, e.g. FWC008 has become 0008, - removing the "FWC" and replacing it with a leading "0" (zero), but that doesn't matter. Use the new numbering system or the old one. Either will work.

Next step is to simply save the index.
From your web browser menu, click on File and then Save .When prompted, save the file to disk in the relevant folder.

This simple text file can be opened using any word processor, Microsoft Wordpad, or imported into any spreadsheet or database program.
The list of names is in full alphabetical order, followed by the page number in the book where the name appears.
