The Violin - Berthold Tours (1838-1897)The Violin - Berthold Tours (1838-1897)(Reference #1116)

There is no "new pill" for learning how to play the violin. This excellent tutorial was written by one of the established masters in violin teaching in the 1800s.

The book contains an immense amount of information on style and technique, together with 100 graded exercises, many of which are wonderfully tuneful and in duet form.

A Dictionary of Violin Makers - C. Stainer 1896(Reference #1077)

Published in 1896, and revised in 1909, this wonderful book is a catalogue of violin makers compiled from various sources.

"Ancient makers of lutes and viols of all kinds have also been included, as it was found impossible to draw a definite line of division between them and makers of the type of instruments we now use."

In addition to basic details about each violin maker, Stainer includes comments about the particular features of the instruments of each, varnishes used by them, information about their specific instruments, and also comments (some not too kind) about their workmanship.
