Directories for the counties of Cheshire, Cumberland, Durham, Lancashire, Northumberland, Westmorland & Yorkshire.
A huge directory of the Northern counties, just as it was published in 1834. Early directories such as this are extremely rare indeed. It is virtually impossible to find one such as this, even in a museum or reference library, and on the open market, assuming that you could find one, the book would cost in excess of £800.
We are therefore extremely pleased to make the whole of this book available to Archive CD Books Members at such a low price. Every page scanned and reproduced on CD for viewing using Adobe Acrobat Reader..
All of the county directories have been prepared to be fully searchable using Acrobat Reader.
THIS IS A BOOK THAT JUST HAS TO BE IN YOUR REFERENCE COLLECTION

PIGOT & CO's LONDON & PROVINCIAL DIRECTORY FOR 1822-3
A huge directory of England and Wales, just as it was published in 1822-3. Early directories such as this are extremely rare indeed. It is virtually impossible to find one such as this, even in a museum or reference library, and on the open market, assuming that you could find one, the book would cost in excess of £800.
All of the county directories have been prepared to be fully searchable using Acrobat Reader. The extensive London Directory is not machine searchable, but there is a comprehensive index of names of people and businesses. The London section also includes an alphabetical list of streets, lanes and passages with a reference to their location.
For London, and each of the places in each county, there is a description of the places, plus postal information, details of carriages, coaches, conveyance and water transport. (The title page refers to a map of England, but this is unfortunately, as usual, missing from the original book).

COUNTY VISITATIONS OF THE HERALDS IN THE 1500S AND 1600s
During the 1500s and 1600s, the Heralds visited each county and recorded the pedigrees of families. In many cases the pedigrees date back to Norman times (the 11th century).
These records form an extremely important source of information for family historians. During the late 1800s and early 1900s, the Harleian Society published a large series of books containing transcripts of these ancient documents. The books also include descriptions or illustrations of the coats of arms of these people.
We are very pleased indeed to have set up a project of co-operation with the Harleian Society to digitise this very important collection of books, which are now extremely rare and almost impossible to obtain.
This set contains the equivalent of 58 (yes, fifty eight!) currently produced CDs (some of which contain more than one volume). They are all from the same series, and on the same topic, forming a full and comprehensive library of resources. - 1500s and 1600s period pedigrees.
