Published in 1908 by The British Record Society this superb book is a list of the calendars of wills and administrations proved in the Court of the Archdeaconry of Exeter 1540-1799. (A calendar of wills is a list of wills arranged by year, and then alphabetical within each year, names and places of residence, and not the actual wills themselves.
Using this CD you can find the name that you are researching in the alphabetical index and then go to the page of the book that relates to that name. Here you can see if and when a will was proved for that person.
Remember that wills are an absolutely invaluable resource for genealogists as it is often possible to build up a very detailed picture of how the person lived by seeing what kind of items he or she passed on to relatives (and find out exactly which relatives were around at the time too!) One of the earliest directories, this one covers the whole of the county, with descriptions of all of the towns and main villages, churches, schools, etc. and a listing of people with trades. Everything from doctors to candle makers, dress makers working from home to chimney sweeps, butchers, bakers and bricklayers, etc. A huge amount of early 19th century information of interest to historians and genealogists.
This county directory was purchased from a book dealer as a loose collection of unbound pages with no cover. Originally it would have been part of a combined county volume, and therefore when we finally obtained all of the other parts of the book (over a period of time from many different book dealers) we decided to reinstate it as you see illustrated here. Beautifully rebound in half leather, with hand made marbled paper and real gold leaf lettering and lining on the spine. Price: £9.79 £11.50 Including VAT at 17.5%
Detailed directories of the major towns and villages with the names, address and occupations of their inhabitants. A fantastic resource, especially for those looking for leads in the 1841 census. Price: £9.79 £11.50 Including VAT at 17.5%

This CD contains the Devon 1844 directory, and comes complete with a high quality zoomable map. Price: £9.79 £11.50 Including VAT at 17.5%

The directory listing appears in many issues, and is updated in each one.
The newspapers cover the period November 1845 to December 1846 (almost 30 issues).

Five huge volumes comprising the earliest directory for Great Britain, and one which is probably the most important directory for genealogists and historians that we have released on CD. For towns and villages the descriptions of the places are excellent, with details of their facilities, etc, and includes those residents with trades (even those such as farmers, hay-binders, labourers, bakers, shop keepers, etc.) and their addresses.
Although titled "Great Britain", this directory covers places in England and Wales. Volume 1 of the five is devoted to London, volumes 2 to 4 cover the places in the England and Wales in alphabetical order, and vol. 5 contains a number of the subsequent amendments and additions published in the next few years.
